A Basenji is not suitable for all dog lovers,The Besenji is the only dog which does not bark. It is indeed highly intelligent and social, very devoted and extremely clean. It does not bark (the only breed of dog that does not do so) but this does not mean that it is dumb.

The Basenji growl is a very distinct growl. The bark sounds more like a squeal or screech than a bark. The unusual sounds are made because its larynx is in a different location than that of other breeds
