Edward Mordake and his " Devil Twin "

Edward Mordake

Edward Mordake was reportedly the 19th century heir to an English peerage. He supposedly had an extra face on the back of his head, which could neither eat nor speak, although it could laugh and cry

When Edward Mordake used to go to bed at night the so called " Devil Twin " spoke about things from hell and haunted him.

Edward Mordake pleaded the doctors to get the " Devil Twin " removed but they simply refused as they feared that he might not survive after the surgery.

The " Devil Twin " seemed to be that of a woman, in Anomalies and Curiosities of Medicine
we are told that I was a beautiful female face “lovely as a dream, hideous as a devil”. Apparently it smiled when he cried and the eyes followed the movements of people around him.

He committed suicide when he was 23 and lived totally isolated for most part of his life and in his suicide letter he spoke about the removal of the " Devil twin " before the burial.
